Fall(ing)

And yet again, I’ve let this get away from me. I’ve been trying to make changes in my own life to try to move forwards. Granted, it isn’t Earth shaking but I have to start somewhere.

I joined a gym. Yes. After years of being too self conscious about the idea and more embarrassed then how I am perceived by others than simply going and doing it, I joined a gym at the beginning of the month. And the best part is the cost. It only runs me 20 dollars a month and doesn’t dent my monthly budget. What has grown surprising is that I actually look forward to going my three times a week and my right ankle, which I also feared would be my down fall with the six screws, plate and all, has been doing surprisingly well, so long as I stay away from the treadmill.  This is just one of the small changes I’ve been wanting to make for awhile and want to use for a foundation as I start trying to eat little better and cut back on my drinking. However, I am not quite ready to give up my energy drinks. Small steps. After all, Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Work wise, it’s been tough the past few weeks. I had really tough shift and since then I’ve been pushing myself to get better by constantly rising the bar and keeping my standards high. But it’s tough because I find I also miss one thing, especially when I manage, that is as simple by ensuring the cooks forget to stock one small line item or one sparkle not getting done. And I keep following up asking if I miss anything so I can make sure it doesn’t happen again.

In addition, I had a chance to sit down and talk to my district manager about what I need to do and get the foundation to become salaried. The time table can be anywhere from six months to a year and it is anything to know the basics of things like inventory or writing truck orders, but the real challenge and inspiring and managing people. Essentially, people skills. So between bouncing back from that one rough shift from a few weeks ago and continuing to develop “people skills” for lack of a better word, I have a lot to do.

But I will say this, I haven’t had anything unfortunate happen lately like my radiator blowing like it did in July. I’ve managed to hang out with my friends quite a bit and make it an almost weekly thing to go out Monday nights to Virginia Beach with one of my best friends and her boyfriend.

October, you’re shaping up to be one classy month, colorful foliage and my favorite holiday in all.
