Starting a Routine

Confession time again. I am terrible at keeping schedules and routines. Really.

The fact I have stuck to going to the gym for a couple times a week is amazing. But starting this week, I am going to take it a step further. I joined the local Y in addition to the gym I’ve been going to for a couple of years. Yeah. It’s silly but the local Y has classes and a pool, more specifically yoga classes. Trying to step it up and get back to doing yoga (I did it about five years ago and it calmed my anxious ass down) and swimming. I used to be good at swimming growing up, never running. But the yoga class and when I usually go to the gym has an hour in between with which I plan to go to Starbucks, have a quick cup of coffee, and have a mini writing session before going to the gym.

I am a bit old fashioned. I still carry a notebook and pens with me wherever I go. I always have.

But another thing I have started doing in the evenings, trying to make it a part of my routine, is writing a little at night, either when I am off or come home from work. I used to do that a lot a few years back before everything became complicated. I enjoyed it. I relished in it. And five years later, I am finding great joy in it again.

So if I scribble in my notebook or peck away at my laptop, working on my novel, stories, fanfic, or an article for somewhere, at least I am writing. That’s the first step.

  1. Yay that’s great !! 🙂 I’m not so good with keeping routines either. They always say it takes 3 weeks to make or break a rule. I’m coming into my fouth week at the gym and I’m still going! I’ve only been going three times a week (plus the odd walk with the dog here and there). So this week I’m going to try 5 times a week and see if I can do that for three weeks and start a new rule 🙂 Writing wise… I really need to start writing every day too! Good on you for getting a little bit done every night! That’s my aim

    1. Every little bit counts! The gym routine was difficult in the beginning but I love/hate it (mainly love it). I tend to do it early in the morning, which sucks sometimes because I mainly work nights. But we always find the time for those things that are important in life, from family and friends or simpler things like the gym and writing. 🙂 Best of luck to you and I am counting down my three weeks starting tomorrow lol.

      1. Oh man I don’t know how you manage morning gym sessions! I’ve tried it before but it’s super hard. Luckily I don’t work nights 🙂 I love my afternoon gym sessions because 1) I’m awake and 2) I always forget how hard the last class was! Good luck to you too! Hopefully we can both smash the next three weeks out of the park!
